First VLTI School in Chile, VAlparaíso

High Angular Resolution in Chile - 3 -7 November, 2014 - Valparaíso, Chile

SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE

2014 VLTI Official PosterOptical and Infrared Interferometry has accomplished many breakthrough discoveries in the last decade. This technique allow us to reach angular resolution not even accessible by the biggest telescopes. The VLTI is located In the Chilean desert at Cerro Paranal and is the leading interferometry facility in the world. This school aims at training future Chilean astronomers to make use of the VLTI and other leading edge facilities. It is targeted to Ph.D students. We will give an introduction to long baseline interferometry in the optical and Infrared wavelengths, data reduction, model fitting, spectro-interferometry and kinematics, and finally image reconstruction. A series of reviews will be presented on a selection of results using optical interferometry, allowing the participant to see the top science done with this technique.

The school will be held at the Universidad de Valparaiso, from 3rd-7th of november 2014.
