Abstract: It is well known that galaxies falling into clusters can experience gas stripping due to ram pressure by the intra-cluster medium. The most spectacular examples, so-called "jellyfish galaxies", display extended tails of optically bright stripped material. I will present several theoretical and observational studies that aim to characterize the effect of gas stripping in galaxy evolution. In particular, I will demonstrate the efficiency of ram-pressure stripping by comparing semi-analytic models to HI observations of cluster galaxies, show a variety of jellyfish specimens observed by the large MUSE program GASP (the first large program dedicated to studying jellyfish galaxies), and present the discovery of a previously unknown connection between ram-pressure stripping and nuclear black hole activity.
